Key Projects

To compile a list of projects is always an enormous task – especially for a company that has been in business since 2005! We have however listed some projects; to highlight the company’s capabilities as well as the diversity of services we offer. Below, listed under the relevant headings, find a list of projects completed by our consultants in recent years.

  • Applications in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (amended 2014)
    • Northam Platinum Zondereinde Division #3 Shaft

      A full EIA process with related specialist assessments to facilitate the construction of one of the deepest shafts in the world. The EA was obtained in August 2021 and consultation on this project is ongoing.

    • Montrose Interchange Upgrade (N4 in Mpumalanga Province)

      A full EIA process was required to authorise the upgrades to the N4, in Mpumalanga province. Extensive specialist assessment, as well as a Water Use License application was conducted and authorised during 2021.

    • Portion 59 Bultfontein 533 JQ

      A car dealership with ancillary uses, as well as borehole registration was authorised on this site. A Basic Assessment process was completed and included specialist assessments and a General Water Use Authorisation (2021).

    • Riverside View Ext 84

      Residential development in Johannesburg, required a Basic Assessment with range of specialist assessments, due to its proximity to the Jukskei River. A Water Use License was also obtained (2021)

    • Luipaardsvlei Ext. 9

      Mixed use development in the Mogale City area. A Basic Assessment with supporting Specialist Studies was completed (2019).

    • Kengies Ext 40

      Amendment to an existing EA was required, and a Water Use License was also amended (2019).

    • K56 Erling to Main Road extension

      A Basic Assessment for this linear development was authorised in May 2018. The Water Use License, was issued in 2020.

    • Greengate Ext 68

      Basic Assessment application, with specialist assessments, to facilitate the construction of a residential development in Johannesburg (2018).

    • Steyn City development

      Various Basic Assessment applications to facilitate development and construction on the site have been conducted by our office. As the consulting Environmental Practitioners on this site, Prism EMS have been involved in the planning of various aspects on site, to accommodate and protect the sensitive receiving environment around the Jukskei River, which traverses this site.

    • Coega Tank farm

      A full EIA, Specialist Assessment, Air Emissions License and Water Use License Application for a tank farm in the Coega Industrial Area, Eastern Cape.

    • Schoemanskloof Road Upgrade

      BAR, WULA and Specialist Assessments to facilitate the road upgrade in the Nelspruit-area, Mpumalanga (ongoing).

  • Waste License applications in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008
    • Rustenburg Medical Waste Treatment Facility

      A Basic Assessment application to facilitate a Waste License for the treatment of effluent on this site was completed (2014).

    • Halewood International (Pty) Ltd

      Waste Management Plan Application including compilation of a Waste Management Plan (2018).

    • Re/Ptn 31 of the farm Nietgedacht 535 JQ

      Integrated NEMA and NEM:WA application to permit the storage, handling and distribution of waste on the subject site (2018).

  • Air Emissions Licenses in terms of the National Air Quality Act, 2004
    • Coega Tankfarm

      Air Emissions License Application (2020)

    • Assmang Iron Ore (Khumani Mine)

      Air Emissions License application (2014)

    • Northam Platinum Mine

      Air Emissions License application (2014)

  • Water Use Licenses in respect of the National Water Act, 1998
    • K33-K52 Road Upgrade

      Water Use License application along with a BAR and Specialist Assessments to allow the upgrade of the roads (2019).

    • Portion 168 Bultfontein 533 JQ

      Application for a Water Use License (2020).

    • Steyn City development

      Various Water Use License applications have been conducted to facilitate the installation of services, bridge constructions and weir constructions in the large scale mixed use development (in progress).

    • Greengate Ext 100 - 106

      Application for various Greengate township, both EIA and BAR applications and Water Use License applications.

  • The Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002

    Environmental Management Programmes

    • Centurion Square Green Building

      Compilation of an EMP to comply to Green Building standards for an office block in Centurion, Pretoria (2014)

    • Northam Platinum #3 Shaft

      Environmental Management Plan

    Auditing in terms of NEMA, NEM:WA, NWA and ISO 14001

    • Northam Mines (Northam Platinum)

      Mine Performance Assessment against all relevant legislation and applicable management plans and licenses (annually).

    • Karusa Wind farm

      On-site ECO Services for the construction of a wind farm in the Lainsburg area, Northern-Cape (2020 - ongoing).

    • Soetwater Wind farm

      On-site ECO Services for the construction of a wind farm in the Lainsburg area, Northern-Cape (2020 - ongoing).

    • Steyn City Development Annual Biomonitoring

      Biomonitoring and Water Quality Monitoring in terms of the WUL issued to the development by DWS (2012 – ongoing).

    • Erf 4 Riverglen

      External Audit in terms of the WUL issued to the Development (annually).
